PaperCheck Values and Ethics Statement

At PaperCheck, we believe that learning to write is learning to think. Writing is a fundamental part of education—not just a way to communicate ideas, but a way to form them. Our mission is to support students in developing their own voices, strengthening their critical thinking skills, and learning to express complex ideas clearly and independently.

PaperCheck is not a tool for writing papers. It is a tool for learning how to write better papers.

We use AI to provide detailed, actionable feedback, helping students identify where and how they can improve. Just as spell checkers have become a natural and accepted part of writing, PaperCheck represents the next evolution: a smart companion that supports improvement without replacing the thinking, creativity, and effort required from the student.

We envision PaperCheck as a resource universities can proudly recommend—a responsible and ethical way to integrate AI into education. We are committed to making education more accessible, more equitable, and more effective, without undermining the personal growth that comes from genuine intellectual effort.

Our principles are simple:

  • Students must remain the authors of their work. PaperCheck highlights areas for improvement; it does not generate content or ideas for students.
  • AI is a companion, not a crutch. Our feedback is designed to strengthen students' thinking, not bypass it.
  • Ethical AI use enhances education. Used correctly, AI can lower costs, expand access, and free up human educators to focus where they are needed most—without diluting the educational experience.
  • We promote thoughtful learning. Our goal is not faster writing, but deeper thinking and better writing.

We have a unique opportunity to use AI as a force for good in education. PaperCheck is committed to seizing that opportunity with care, responsibility, and respect for what education is truly about: learning to think, create, and grow.
